Green Card for motorcycles – what is it and in which countries is it mandatory?

Traveling on motorcycles in Europe has now become as easy as a trip to the Masurian Lake District, the Tatra Mountains or the Polish sea. Sometimes, however, you have to remember to carry with you additional documents, which are not needed in our home country, and their absence can really cost a lot. One of them is the Green Card. You will find out what it is and in which countries it is obligatory from our article – the Green Card for motorcycles.

Green Card for a motorcycles – what is it and where to get it from?

The Green Card is the common name of the International Motor Insurance Card, i.e. nothing else than a certificate of having compulsory civil liability insurance issued at least 15 days before the trip, which in the event of an incident with another vehicle will be honored by the insurer in the country concerned. Many insurance companies offer it to their customers as a free supplement at the moment of purchase, but there are also some that issue it for an additional fee. It is worth noting, however, that some companies do not issue Green Cards in all countries, so it is best to contact your insurer before leaving with information about which countries you want to travel through and the question of whether he will provide us a Green Card for that countries.

Check whether your insurer will issue the Green Card free of charge!

Green Card for motorcycles – what if I don’t have one?

Well, what if we do not have the Green Card with us and we are just standing at a border crossing point? Good information it is not the end of the holiday, but we must buy border insurance in such a case. Border insurance is a short-term (15 or 30 days) civil liability insurance, valid in a given country. Unfortunately, the costs of such insurance are much higher than the costs of a Green Card, so when planning your trip, check whether the Green Card is not mandatory and think about it earlier. For the forgetful during packing – some time ago we have prepared an article with our subjective guide and a checklist to download.
